Answers
1. How does your service work? [back to top]
Firstly, we will take the time to fully understand the type of horse it is that you are looking for. We will cover the level of use, age, sex, height and other special requirements that you may have, that will help us pinpoint horses for your consideration. We will furnish a detailed report on the candidates, including competition history, together with a video of the horse if required. We do not charge for the video tape, however we will require a Fedex account number, or credit card details for the cost of the courier. This cost is usually in the region of US$26 to US$34. Tapes on average take 2-4 days to arrive.
2. If I want to come and ride the horse for myself, is this possible? [back to top]
Of course! We are more than happy to arrange flight and accommodation for you in NZ, and while you are here we can show you a range of horses to suit your requirements. This is by far the best way to select the perfect equine partner, however due to time and money constraints, this is not always possible for our buyers. We understand this, which is why the video only option suits so many of our clients.
3. Do people buy horses straight from the videos? [back to top]
Yes they do. Although seeing a video can never replace riding the horse for yourself, our videos and descriptions are fairly detailed, and people have in the past, purchased horses as soon as they have seen a tape and performance record of the horse.
4. What about vetting? [back to top]

Obviously buying and transporting a horse from New Zealand is a big commitment, and we recommend anyone thinking of making such an investment take the time to get a full vets report on any horse they are seriously considering. We can recommend a number of independent vets that can provide a detailed report and x-rays, as required. The extent of the exam performed is ultimately your decision, however we strongly suggest the following examination as a minimum:

  ? Full 5 stage examination
? X-Rays of knees, hocks, front and back fetlocks (ankles) and front and back feet.
  ? Endoscope
  ? Cardiograph
  ? Blood tests

5. How do I ship a horse? [back to top]

Whilst clients are welcome to make their own arrangements if they prefer, Kiwi Sporthorses is happy to coordinate the transportation of your new horse to your door. We have excellent relations with International Racehorse Transport (IRT). They will handle the paperwork and health check prior to shipping, and keep you up to date on the status of your horse. Horses are typically flown out of Auckland to Los Angeles. They will then quarantine in Los Angeles for approximately three days, before being released to complete their onward journey to your barn. Whether they are flown on, or vanned is up to the client, but either option is possible.
Please note, that from New Zealand, mares and stallions only require the 3 day quarantine period.

6. How do I know that the horse I buy is "as described" ? [back to top]
For every horse we sell, we will provide as much detail as possible regarding their performance history to date. This includes copies of the official result record from the NZEF. Where possible, we will also provide you with copies of the score sheets from competitions attended by the horse. This will show the number of competitors in the class, and also the individual scores and placing achieved. The horse will be as accurately described as possible, both good points and bad. Nearly all of the horses we represent, we have either ridden ourselves, or we have seen them in action. We endeavour to provide the most accurate information possible regarding soundness, temperament, rideability, performance record, and what we feel their potential talent could be.
7. Do you own the horses or do you sell on behalf? [back to top]
We do not own any of the horses that we are currently offering for sale. We are purely an agency, offering access to some of the best horses in the country, at very fair prices. Should we ever wish to sell our own horses in the future, it will be fully disclosed that we have a financial interest in the horse. We are here to provide the best match possible, and will not sell you our own, over a more suitable horse.
8. Why do some of the horse suddenly appear on your sold page, yet they were never displayed for sale? [back to top]
The "For Sale" pages are just a very small selection of the horses that we have on our books. Many of the horses are not openly advertised, and as per the riders requests, their details are to be kept entirely confidential. When we receive a request for information on any horses that are displayed, we will automatically provide details on other, unlisted horses, which may also suit. Our unlisted horses range from green talented youngsters through to successful 3 + 4* eventers and Grand Prix show jumpers.
